Kanha National Park
"The most aesthetically managed park in India. The visibility in the meadows is unparalleled for behavioral photography."
Terrain, Flora & Logistics
The inspiration for Kipling’s Jungle Book. Kanha is a landscape of vast sal forests and sprawling meadows (maidans) that harbor the world’s only population of hard-ground Barasingha.
Flora & Fauna
Dominated by towering Sal trees and lush bamboo thickets. While the Tiger is the protagonist, the park is a sanctuary for the Leopard, the Dhole (Wild Dog), and the only remaining wild population of the hard-ground Barasingha.
Photography Strategy
The "Meadow Mist": At first light, use the low sun to rim-light the Barasingha in the meadows. Keep your ISO high enough (800-1600) to handle the deep shadows under the dense Sal canopy.
