Morning flight to the East. We enter the UNESCO World Heritage site of Manas. As we approach the Bhutan border, the grasslands give way to tropical semi-evergreen forests—the hunting grounds of the Clouded Leopard.

First entry into the core-zone. We focus on the "Horizontal Branching" of the silk-cotton trees. We scan for the distinctive large-blotch patterns of the Clouded Leopard, often found resting on low-hanging limbs during the midday humidity.

A full transit day deeper into the North-East frontier. We drive to Guwahati, fly on to Dibrugarh, then continue by road into Arunachal Pradesh, crossing the Brahmaputra plains as the terrain shifts into a multi-layered subtropical rainforest, the most biodiverse theater in Asia.
